High Beeches

High Beeches is a new-build residence in Hampshire with a calm, classical stone language.

Working with ASG Architects and main contractor Primeoak on a self-build scheme, AFJONES used Clipsham limestone to give the house warmth, depth and a sense of permanence, with carefully judged detailing around the entrance and cornice.

CLASSICAL NEW-BUILD
IN CLIPSHAM STONE

AN ENTRANCE FRAMED
IN STONE

The architecture at High Beeches takes its cues from classical forms while remaining tailored to a contemporary home.

Clipsham stone, chosen for its natural movement in the bedding and its warm, comforting tone, is used to create a coherent façade that feels both familiar and quietly refined.

CORNICE AND PEDIMENT
DETAILING

The main entrance is defined by a stone portico and curved pediment, giving the front elevation a clear point of focus.

Jambs, heads and cills are proportioned to suit the window arrangement, and the stonework is set out to work with the rhythm of the openings and the wider massing of the house.

PROPORTION, SCALE
AND SHADOW

At roof level, the cornice is formed from a triple stack of stones that cantilever elegantly from the walls, feeding into the curved pediment above the portico.

The layering of profiles creates a strong shadow line that anchors the elevation and emphasises the junction between wall and roof in a controlled, considered way.

DETAIL THAT SUPPORTS
THE ARCHITECTURE

Clipsham was selected not just for its appearance but for its performance and workability.

Its characteristic veining and variation bring life to the façade, while its strength and durability make it well suited to exposed elements such as cornices and pediments. AFJONES ensured a consistent selection of blocks so the finished stonework reads as a unified whole.

COORDINATION WITH CONTRACTOR
AND CLIENT

Throughout the project, AFJONES worked closely with ASG Architects and the main contractor to translate design intent into buildable details.

Jointing, fixing strategies and sequencing were all considered early, helping the stonework integrate cleanly with the wider construction and supporting a smooth on-site programme.

STONEWORK TO GROUND A
NEW HOME

The completed house demonstrates how disciplined stone detailing can give a new-build home a sense of maturity from day one.

By combining thoughtful material choice, classical proportion and precise execution, the Clipsham stonework at High Beeches provides an enduring frame for everyday family life.

High Beeches underlines AFJONES’ role as a partner for classically influenced new-build homes.

By being involved from stone selection through to manufacture and installation, the team were able to deliver façades and entrance stonework that feel rooted, welcoming and built to endure.
